Spartan Prep Team Ends Year with Victory over Tigers for 33rd Win

In game #2 of a doubleheader played in Alliance on Tuesday, it was the Spartan Prep squad downing Torrington 6 to 3 to finish their season. The Peltz Co concluded their year with a 33 and 14 record. Alliance fell to the Tigers 11 to 0 in the opener before getting the W in game 2. Going 4 innings for the Spartans was Miguel Galvan who gave up 5 hits and struck out 2. Jaden Garcia pitched the fifth for Alliance. Galvan helped his cause by recording a team 4 RBIs.

A leadoff hit by the guests in their first at bat was quickly put down by three straight outs. Using the momentum, the Peltz Co tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the inning. Jay Shelmadine started the rally with a single to begin the action. With one out, grounders hit by Tanner Salcido and Galvan were mishandled by the Tigers. Salcido’s grounder plated Shelmadine while the Spartan’s lead grew

to 2 to 0 on the RBI grounder by Galvan. An Alliance double play in the second kept the guests off the board. In the last half of inning 2, the Spartans added to their advantage with 4 big runs. Carsen

Bunnell walked and with one out, moved into scoring position following a hit by Spartan Eban Lore. Next up was Shelmadine who reached on an RBI fielder’s choice. The next batters, Cisco Cody and Salcido, got on to load the bags. Galvan then ripped a double then cleared the sacks. After 2 innings of play, Alliance led 6 to 0.

Using a hit, a walk, and an error by Alliance, Torrington got on the scoreboard with one run in the third. Galvan ended the rally with a strikeout. In the bottom of the third, the Spartans got a hit from Kyler Hamel but failed to score. Two more runs by the Tigers in the fourth made the score 6 to 3. The highlight of the frame came when Salcido threw out a runner at second from his catcher position. Salcido would record a hit in the bottom of the inning as the contest went to the fifth with the Peltz Co ahead by 3. Torrington would not threaten in their last attempt and the Spartans went on for the 6 to 3 win.
