Alliance hit the road on Thursday for a Senior battle with Platte Valley. And in the end it was the hosts outlasting the Spartans 3 to 2. The Peltz Co tied the contest at 2 in the top of the third but a run scored in the home half proved to be the difference . With the loss, the Seniors have a 23-9 record of the year. Alliance tallied just 4 hits for the game. Starting pitcher Kegan Rodriguez went 4 plus frames and was relieved by Tony Escamilla. The contest was played in Gering.
First inning scores by Gering put the Spartans in an early hole. The senior squad went scoreless in the top of the first while Platte Valley Co scored twice. Using a triple, a wild pitch, 2 walks, and a single Gering grabbed an early 2 to 0 advantage. Inning 2 saw both clubs failing to get on the board. Rodriguez had a k for the Peltz Co in the bottom of the inning.
Alliance knotted the battle in the top of the third. Espen Lanik singled to start the rally and later scored on an RBI hit by Escamilla. An error by Platte Valley then advanced Escamilla. The Peltz Co then tied the game at 2 when Carver Nemnich had a run scoring knock. PV then retook the lead with a tally in the home half. The hosts had 2 hits to go up 3 to 2 after three innings of action.
Pitching would dominate the rest of the game . Both teams went scoreless in the final 3 and 1/2 frames. Escamilla had 2 strikeouts in the sixth to keep the Spartans close. In their final at bat, the Peltz Co got a double from Mikey Johnson but the Spartan was stranded on the base paths. Final Platte Valley Co 3 Alliance 2
