Good starting pitching by Kegan Nelson and a 4 hit effort from Cody Galles helped the Alliance senior baseball team win their first match of the season. The Spartans defeated the Regulators from Gordon 11 to 1 Tuesday evening in a game played in Alliance. Nelson hurled all 5 innings for the Peltz Co, allowing 4 hits and striking out 8 Security First batters. Led by Galles, Alliance recorded 9 hits in getting their first W on the year.
Nelson began his strong outing by recording 2 k’s as the guests failed to score in the opening inning. In the home half of the frame, the Spartans put 2 on the scoreboard. Jaxon Poss continued his big night by setting the table with a leadoff walk. A hit by Galles was next and a wild pitch by the Regulators gave the Spartans a 1 to 0 lead. Tony Escamilla then increased the margin with an RBI single. After one inning of action, the Peltz Co held a 2 to 0 lead.
Two more strikeouts by Nelson kept the visitors off the board in the top of the second. Alliance went up 3 to 0 in the bottom of the inning with one tally. A single by Poss started the rally and the Spartan right fielder moved into scoring position following a second knock by Galles. The Spartans then went ahead by 3 when Poss stole home. In the third, either team scored. A hit by Gordon was quickly erased following a double play by the Spartans. Nelson ended the inning with another k. Carver Nemnich would get a hit for the Peltz Co in the bottom of the frame but was left on the bases. The top of inning #4 the Regulators went scoreless while the Spartans added to their lead in the bottom of the inning. Overall, Alliance tallied 3 more runs to go up 6 to 0. The rally started with 2 outs as EJ Garcia reached on a miscue by Gordon. Poss was next and his walk continued the rally. The Peltz Co lead then grew to 4 to 0 following Galles’ third knock. An error by Gordon on a grounder hit by Escamilla put the score at 5 to 0. The inning came to a close with another tally by Alliance after a balk by the Security First pitcher. Heading to the fifth, the Peltz Co led 6 to 0.
A single and a double by the Regulators got the visitors on the board in the top of the finale but another strikeout by Nelson ended the scoring. Alliance put the game away in the bottom of the fifth with 5 more runs. Nemnich began the rally with a walk and advanced after a Fritzler hit. An RBI single by Lexton Salcido gave the Spartans a 7 to 1 cushion. A hit by pitch batter then loaded the bases for Poss who got an RBI with a walk.
