Nearly perfect track conditions welcomed fans and athletes Saturday to Bearcat stadium in Scottsbluff for the Bluffs Middle School meet. Seven teams took part in the event. The host Bearcats won both the boy’s divisions with Gering second in each team race. Scottsbluff 7th graders scored 147 points in placing first with Gering second with 110. On the 8th grade side, the Bluffs were first with 103, just edging Gering with 102. Chadron was the winner in the 7th grade girl’s team race with 107 while Scottsbluff was second with 105 points. Gering won the 8th grade girl’s division with 131 points. Scottsbluff was next with 90 points.
The Crusaders from St. Agnes’s best team finish came in the 7th grade girl’s side as the Academy came in fifth with 42 points. Both the 8th grade squads were sixth while the 7th grade boys took seventh. St. Agnes had a pair of school record efforts in the relays. The Crusader 8th grade boy’s team won the 2 mile relay with an impressive time of 9:54 which took off 20 seconds from the previous record. Team members: Cisco Cody Braden Myers Tripp Johnson and Paxton Richey. Johnson also won the mile while Richey was first in the pole vault. Best finisher for the 7th grade boys came in the 800 where Tatum Devlin was second.
With a time of 4:36, the Lady Crusaders were first in the 8th grade mile relay and took 5 seconds off the old record of 4:41. Reese Armstrong Aubrey Dudden Alexis Shelmadine and Penn Vergil were the members. Other gold medalists for the 8th grade club were: the 400 relay and Armstrong in the pole vault. Vergil was a double first place finisher, claiming first in the high jump and 800. Shelmadine won the 7th grade pole vault.
