Game #2 for the Alliance St. Agnes volleyball featured a contest with Cody-Kilgore. Led by 8th grader Alexis Shelmadine, the Academy took down the Cowboys in 2 sets 25-14 25-15 in getting their first win for the year. Shelmadine scored 13 points in a contest played Thursday in Hyannis. The affair was part of a quad tourney which also consisted of Crawford and Hyannis. Earlier in the day, the Lady Crusaders lost a tough 2 setter to Crawford to began their afternoon. St. Agnes now has a 1 and 1 record of the season. Set 2 ended with 5 straight points by Crusader Grace Shrewsbury to close out the match.
Down 4 to 2 in the early moments of set one, the Academy got an ace serve from Aubrey Dudden to close the gap. Two Shrewsbury points plus by a kill by Kale Hulquist then gave the Crusaders their first lead at 7 to 6. With Alliance down 2, a kill by Quinn Robertson sliced the St. Agnes deficit and sent Hulquist to the service line. The Crusader 7th graders responded with 5 consecutive points as Alliance surge ahead 13 to 9. Addison Intermill then step her play up for the Academy with a kill and 2 points which made the score 17 to 10. Ahead by 7 at 21 to 14, Shelmadine then put the game away with 4 straight scores. A pair of Hulquist kills in opening minutes of set 2 helped the Academy get off to a solid start. Down 9 to 7, an ace spike by Robertson gave the Crusaders a chance. It was then Shelmadine’s time to shine as the Lady Crusader had a kill and 9 straight points that put SA up for good at 18 to 11. Alliance received kills by Delaney Jelinek and Hulquist during the spree. Another ace spike by Hulquist in the final moments foil a Cody comeback. Up 20 to 15, Shrewsbury went to the line and scored the game’s five tallies. Her ace serve finished off the match with the Academy win the set 25 to 15
