St. Agnes Takes Two from Eagles and Hawks

The Alliance St. Agnes volleyball teams had a successful week, topping both Community Christian and Hay Springs in a pair on games played in Alliance. St. Agnes made quick work of Community Christian on Monday then dropped Hay Springs in 2 sets on Thursday. With the wins the Crusaders improved to 2 and 1 for the year. St. Agnes was also victorious in both their JV contests as well.

In Monday’s match against Community Christian early plays from Hannah Benzel and Dawsyn Higgins helped the Crusaders take the lead versus the Eagles. A kill by Reese Armstrong made the score 7 to 1 in favor of SA. Alliance then got super plays from Aubree Shrewsbury and Kaitlyn Shannon to surge ahead 14 to 4. The set came to end with points by Amora Gonzalez and Peyton Baker as the Crusaders took set one 25 to 8.

It was all St. Agnes in set 2. Lilah Bair scored the first 8 points, giving the Crusaders the early momentum. Stella Beck and Baker ended the second set with points and SA went to win 25 to 7. In the one set JV match, Alliance would get points by Bair and Aubrey Dudden to go on for the victory 25 to 15.

St. Agnes then hosted Hay Springs on Thursday. The Crusaders stormed out to an early margin with strong play by Benzel, Higgins, and Shannon. Ahead 9 to 6 it was Armstrong who scored the games next 10 points to put SA up 19 to 6. The set came to close with Crusader Maslin Breen 3 kills and St. Agnes winning 25 to 16. Play was tight in set 2. Alliance got good plays from Benzel, Higgins, Shannon, and Breen to pull away. With SA up 12 to 11 the Crusaders got excellent kills by Benzel to take a 19 to 11 advantage. The game ended with good serves from Baker and Alliance winning 25 to 14. Beck and Baker were also key contributors in the JV game. St. Agnes would also get points by Dudden and win the opener 25 to 18. In the finale, it was Bair, Baker, and Delaney Jelinek helping St. Agnes garner the early margin. The game concluded with points by Bair and Alliance taking the W 25 to 12.
