Day two of the Clair Conley Legion baseball tournament held in Alliance saw the Peltz Co Spartans down Buckley 4 to 0 in a senior game played Friday night. The Spartans got a strong starting pitching effort by Espen Lanik who went 6 innings, giving up just 2 hits while striking out 10 Bombers. Lanik was also a spark on offense with 2 hits. Kaden Ferguson came in to pitch the seventh and gave up 0 hits.
Three strikeouts by Lanik began play in the top of the first. The Spartans the grabbed the early lead in the bottom of the first with one run. A leadoff hit by Lanik started the rally. With one out Lanik advanced to third on a single by shortstop Tony Escamilla. Lanik would then score on a balk by the Bomber’s pitcher. After one inning the Peltz Co. led 1 to 0. Two more strikeouts by Lanik in the second kept the guest of the scoreboard. With one out in the bottom of the inning third baseman EJ Garcia reach on a fielder’s choice and scored on an RBI single by Lanik. After stealing second Lanik then scored on a Buckley error. Going to the third Alliance’s margin grew to 3 to 0. Both team’s bats were then silent in the third and fourth innings with neither team getting in the scorebook. Lanik posted three more strikeouts in those frames. Garcia had Alliance’s fourth hit in the bottom of the fourth.
With 2 outs in the top of the fifth the Bombers would record their first hit off Lanik but another K by the Spartan pitcher quickly ended the rally. The Spartan lead would then grow in the home half of the fifth. Alliance’s Nason Thompson would reach and steal second and eventually come around to score on a Buckley error. Heading to the sixth Alliance led 4 to 0. The Bombers in the sixth would get a leadoff hit but put outs by Ferguson in right and Escamilla at short denied the visitors any runs. Another strikeout by Lanik finished the inning with no damage. In the seventh with Ferguson now pitching, the Peltz Co would get 2 straight put outs by Escamilla at short to end the contest, Final: Alliance 4 Buckley 0
