Swinging into summer is the Alliance Public Library with its “Tails and Tales” Summer Reading Program 2021, along with the Alliance Public Library Foundation! Registration will begin the week of May 17 during library hours and the program will begin Monday, May 24 continuing through Wednesday, June 30. Registration will include a Power Point presentation for each age division, completing registration forms and receiving their “Tails and Tales” bag with activities, information and more!
Our youth programs include three age divisions with contests of Reading, Creative Animal Antics and a Facebook Pet Parade, with books checked out from the Alliance Public Library and prizes for each division. Preschool through Second Grade will complete five books per week according to reading level and there will be “Tails and Tales” Animal Stories, Puppets and Music on June 1 and 15 at 10 a.m. Grades 3-5 will complete three chapter books each week and these youth can also participate in our Juvenile Book Club with “Shiloh” by Phyllis Reynolds Taylor. Grades 6-12 will complete three chapter books per week and they can participate in our Young Adult Book Club with “The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien. Both of these youth book clubs will continue to meet monthly after Summer Reading. When weekly reading goals are met and turned in at the library before 3 p.m. on Fridays, children and youth will receive food prizes from local restaurants. Those who complete all five weeks of reading will be entered in drawings for a grand prize at each level.
Program highlights for children in first grade and over include Jeff Quinn’s “Reading Safari Magic Show” on Friday, June 4 at 1 p.m., The Animal Center with Dr. Tom Furman on Wednesday, June 9 at 10 a.m., Riverside Discovery Center on Wednesday, June 16 at 10 am, and the Little Critters 4-H Club on Wednesday, June 30 at 10 a.m. There will also be recycled crafts and activities with Keep Alliance Beautiful.
At home, families can enjoy our Story Time Read-a-long videos together, produced by Alliance Public Library staff and shared on the library’s website under the Youth tab.
