Everything worked for the Alliance 7th grade football team in a home contest Tuesday night against Sidney. The Bulldogs were solid on defense and scored 30 first quarter points in downing the Raiders 50 to 20. With the win, AMS improves to 2 and 1 for the season. Alliance had an interception on defense plus four touchdowns in the opening frame to grab a big lead. The opening period ended with a kick return by the Dogs to increase their margin.
Sidney got the ball first and found the going difficult. A sack by Alliance’s Jace Jensen would force a Raider punt. Starting with excellent field position, it would take only a few plays for the Dogs to get on the board. Running back Enzo Kappius culminated the drive by scoring on a 12 yard run. The point after was good with a successful run by Bulldog Roy Torres and with 5:48 showing on the clock Alliance led 8 to 0. Dog defense remained stout on the following Sidney drive with a sack by Alliance’s Atreus Walker paving the way. An interception by Jensen got the Dogs great field position on the ensuing play. From the 21, it was Dixon Bair getting the Bulldogs second score with a strong run. Jensen tacked on the PAT and with 4:02 on the clock the Dog lead grew to 16 to 0.
On Alliance’s next series, it was Jensen scoring from the 34 yard line that pushed the Alliance advantage to 22 to 0. Sidney answered back by scoring on a long td pass to cut their deficit to 22 to 8 but Torres would return the following kick 61 yards for another Alliance touchdown. The extra point was good on a nice play by Bulldog Mykey Valdovinos. After one quarter, the Dogs were up 30 to 8.
In the second, AMS kept the momentum. Alliance would force another Sidney punt and get the ball at the 21. It would take just a couple of plays for the Bulldogs to find end zone. A 57 yard td run by Kappius put the Dogs ahead by 28. Running back Tatum Devlin would run in the extra point as the Bulldog lead grew to 38 to 8. The half came to a close with sacks by Alliance’s Walker and Jonathan Jacobo. At 2 periods of action, the Bulldogs were up 38 to 8.
A running clock in the second half would limit both teams to only a couple possessions each. Bair again found the end zone for Alliance on their opening drive. The speedy receiver scored from midfield to push the Bulldog advantage to 44 to 8 with 4:50 showing on the clock. Sidney scored the game’s next points by returning the following kick 60 yards for a Raider score. The PAT was no good. It was then the Dog’s turn for a nice kick return as Torres ran 51 yards to set up another Bulldog touchdown. Devlin scored from the 34 yard line and put the score at 50 to 14 with 3 minutes left in the quarter. The period ending with no more points and AMS ahead by 36.
At the 5 minute mark of the final period, the Raiders scored on a 7 yard pass. The extra point was no good. Both teams would then have one more drive but were denied any tallies. Final Alliance 50. Sidney 20
