The Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident that occurred during the early morning hours of 12/9/2025, when a suspect unlawfully entered an occupied residence near Wyoming Ave. and Ord St., within Hemingford Nebraska, while the residents were asleep.
At approximately 1:40 a.m. officers responded to reports of an intruder inside the home. The occupants were able to contact authorities immediately. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. No injuries or weapons were reported.
Following the initial investigation, the suspect has been identified as a local neighborhood resident, and additional patrols have been assigned to the area as a precaution.
We urge all residents to remain vigilant and take steps to secure their homes, including:
Ensuring all doors and windows are locked, especially at night;
Using exterior lighting or motion-activated lights;
Reporting suspicious individuals or activity immediately;
Considering the use of home security systems or cameras.
