An early-morning stabbing led one person to be life flighted for an injury sustained, and for another person to receive criminal charges.
According to the Affidavit for Custody filed in the case, on May 15, at 2:43 a.m., a person contacted 911 and reported that someone had been stabbed and that they feared they would be attacked next. Officers with the Alliance Police Department responded to the report in the 500 block of Homestead Avenue. Officers knocked on the door of the residence and detained a person identified as Gary Shott. He told officers that they needed to help his friend, saying his friend had cut himself with a sword. Officers entered the residence and located one person in a hallway in a state of semi-consciousness with a “severe laceration on his right hand consistent with a defensive wound,” according to the Affidavit. The person who reported the incident was found holding the injured person.
While the injured person was being treated by EMS, officers spoke with the person who reported the incident, and that person told officers that earlier Shott had taken drugs and that they observed him pick up a sword with a long blade and begin stabbing furniture and the walls, according to the Affidavit.
The person told officers that after going into another room out of fear for their safety, they heard Shott arguing with the other person, advising that Shott was screaming at them.
The person who reported the incident told officers they left the bedroom and observed that their friend had been injured and was semi-conscious, according to the Affidavit.
Officers observed a large amount of blood splatter and pooling throughout the residence, except in the bedrooms. During the search, they also located a sword with blood and drywall on it, according to the Affidavit.
“Officers also located a large amount of methamphetamine paraphernalia strewn around the residence as well as marijuana paraphernalia,” the Affidavit stated.
The injured person was transported to Box Butte General Hospital, and was life flighted to be treated for the injury.
Shott was taken into custody and was charged with second degree assault, a class IIA felony, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, a class II felony, and third degree assault, a class I misdemeanor. He was set to be arraigned in Box Butte County Court on Tuesday morning.
