Taking on New Challenges

Girl Scouts love variety, a good challenge and spending time with their sister Scouts! Fifth grade Troop 10308 asked Chloe Blumanthal, a Girl Scout Ambassador to teach them about skin care, and modest make-up application techniques to enhance their features. This was something they didn’t know a lot about, but were all interested in. It was a terrific way to learn new skills and for Chloe to share her love of being an older Girl Scout with Arkaya Warfield, Jazmin Terrell and Maddison Murphy. The girls had terrific questions and walked away with shimmery eyes and a spark for new adventure.

Being the versatile troop they are, the girls from Troop 10308 have decided the next badge they want to tackle is the Trail Adventure Badge. Outdoor adventures are exciting and unpredictable. Every adventure will lead you to new experiences, unique challenges and problem-solving opportunities. That is exactly what these girls are looking for! Trail Adventure is like a “choose your own adventure” experience that teaches planning, preparation, and goal-setting that will lead up to the ideal day hike. The girls will research the area they want to explore and look into the necessary gear needed to make their hike a success. Scouts will visit adventure retailers to look over the array of hiking gear and essentials. This is an opportunity to ask questions of expert staff. Another component of preparation is talking to local hikers for advice and creating a nature mood board to help set expectations.

The Trail Adventure Badge also challenges the girls to study the wildlife they may encounter, which muscle groups your body uses when hiking and how to read trail signs. While the girls will take a few local hikes, the summer goal is a three-mile hike at Chadron State Park.
