Remember the song, “Sunday Morning Coming Down,” Johnny Cash sang it. To me he was portraying a guy who lived all alone and maybe had a drinking problem. I think he portrayed a man who wanted things to be different and Sunday mornings were especially hard on him because he had time to think about how sad he really was. (That is my take anyway) During the song Johnny sings the words, ” I dug into the closet to find my cleanest dirty shirt.” Every morning when we dress for the day all we can do is put on our cleanest dirty shirt.
Sin has made us all unclean. We try and cover that sin up the best we can and we might even fool some but deep deep down we know better and we try not to think about it. Remember the lovely parable about the prodigal son? When he returned home is father cooked the fatted calf but better yet he covered him up with a nice clean robe. Probably covered up the smell, dirt, mud, and whatever else you get from traveling many days without showers and clean clothes.
That is what our Heavenly Father does for us each day, He clothes us with His Robe Of Righteousness where all that sin has been dealt with and we have become clean all because He loves you and I dearly whom do not have any righteousness or clean shirts on our own.
