Tuesday night was special for the Alliance girl’s basketball team in a home contest against Chadron. First of all it was senior night where four players were honored for their service to the Alliance program. The four-Jaelynne Clarke, Haylie Winter, Ciara Hudson, and Regan Braun- have started just about every game this season and definitely will be missed. As for the game, the evening really became special as the Bulldogs downed their long time rival Cardinals 55 to 48. Chadron had defeated the Dogs twice this year before Alliance got revenge. With the win, AHS goes to 7 and 11 on the year. Chadron won the JV game earlier in the night by a 45 to 23 score.
Both teams lit up the scoreboard in the opening period. The Cards drilled four three pointers in the first quarter that kept Chadron’s hopes alive. A trey by the guests opened the scoring but Bulldog Macey Seebohm, who led Alliance in scoring, answered with a three ball of her own. Another three by Chadron put the Cardinals up 6 to 3 half way through the period. Alliance came back with 2 goals by Hudson that put the Dogs up 7 to 6. Later in the period, with Alliance trailing by one, Seebohm connected on another three that gave AHS a lead at 11 to 10. A trey by Chadron was then countered with a 3 point play by Seebohm, making the score 13 to 11 in favor of the Bulldogs. The quarter ended with another Chadron 3 ball and Alliance getting points by Hudson and Winter. After one, Alliance was ahead 17 to 14. The Cards began the second with 6 straight to clam a 20 to 17 lead. The momentum then went on the Bulldog’s side. Alliance roared back with 15 points in a row to surge ahead 32 to 20. During the 15 to 0 run, the Dogs got scores from Seebohm, Hudson, and Clarke. The half closed with back to back threes by Chadron and Alliance out in front 32 to 26.
In the first 4 minutes of the third it was Chadron erasing their deficit. The Cards outscored the Bulldogs 8 to 3 and closed the gap to 35 to 34. Clarke would account for the lone Alliance score with a three pointer. Play was even for the rest of the period. More points by Hudson and Seebohm kept Alliance in the lead. Heading to the fourth the Bulldogs led 43 to 41. Three pointers by the Dogs in the opening minutes of the finale helped the hosts stay ahead. A three by Winter was followed by a Clarke trey that put AHS up 49 to 47 with four minutes remaining. Winter continued her big night with a 2 point goal as the Bulldog margin grew to 4 at 51 to 47. Chadron would then tally only one more point in the last 2 minutes of the contest while a huge 2 pointer by Alliance’s Addison Weber gave the Dogs the lead at 53 to 48. The game closed with a steal and score by Clarke that put the icing on the cake. Final Alliance 55 Chadron 48
