Third Time’s a Charm for Lady Bulldogs in Win over Chadron

A remarkable comeback by the Alliance girl’s basketball team took part on Friday in a contest with Chadron. The Bulldogs rallied from an 18 point deficit to stun the Cards 42 to 29 in a contest played in Gering. Alliance held Chadron to just 2 points in the second half to improve to 2 and 16 on the year. The ball game was a consolation matchup of the Western Conference tournament held in Scottsbluff and Gering. Alliance avenged 2 losses to the Cardinals in games played earlier in the season. Two Bulldogs ended the game in double figures with Macey Seebohm leading the way with 14 points while junior Addison Weber added 13.

Things went Chadron’s way early in the opening period. The Cards raced to a quick 8 to 2 lead. Alliance would get 2 free throws by Brooke Bailey during the spree. At the four minute stage, Bulldog Paz Cody netted a two pointer to get Alliance to within 4. A Card bucket ensued, but AHS came back with 5 in a row on a Weber score and a 3 pointer by Seebohm. The period closed with a trey by Chadron and the Cards out in front 13 to 9.

Fourteen big Cardinal points in the second made things difficult for the Dogs. Down 14 to 9, AHS got a goal by Bailey to slice the Bulldog deficit to three. From there, it was all Chadron. The Cards put the game’s next 13 points in score column to surge ahead 27 to 11 with under 2 minutes left in the half. Alliance’s big comeback then began with 2 free throws by Seebohm and a 2 by Weber. Heading to the half, Chadron was up 27 to 15.

Bulldog defense was strong in the second half, holding the Cards to a single basket. Period #3 started with 6 Seebohm points. A three by the guard started the spree. It was followed by a three point play by the senior that got AHS to within 6. Bailey then sliced the Chadron margin to three with a 2 pointer and a free throw. At the six minute mark, the Cards would score their lone goal of the half and surge ahead 29 to 24. It was then time for Weber to shine. The Bulldog forward scored the contest’s next 9 points on 2 free throws, a three pointer, and 2 two point goals as the Bulldogs took a 33 to 29 with under 2 minutes remaining in the quarter. The period came to an end with a Seebohm free throw and AHS leading 34 to 29.

All the scoring in the fourth came from Alliance. Two quick hoops by Bulldog Miah Marsteller pushed the Alliance cushion to 9. At the 6 minute mark a bucket by Bailey made the score 40 to 29 in favor of the Dogs. Alliance’s zone defense continued to give the Cards fits in the final moments. The Bulldogs forced many turnovers by Chadron as the Cardinals went scoreless. Two free throws by Seebohm midway through the period finished the scoring. Final Alliance 42 Chadron 29
