Three Honored with Quilts of Valor

Three veterans were recently honored with Quilts of Valor during a ceremony on Feb. 24, at the VFW in Alliance: George Walker, Chad Nielsen and Ron Clark.

George Walker served in the US Army from 1956-1958, serving in Korea. He was discharged as E3 (PFC) 532nd Quartermaster. He received a Good Conduct Medal. His Quilt of Valor was pieced by Sue Williams, quilted by Chris Wolf and bound by Kathy Dye and Vic Bolek.

Chad Nielsen served from 1991 to 2013, enlisting in the Marines during Desert Storm. After his schooling, he spent the remainder of his Marine Corps career at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, as a Korean linguist. He then enlisted in the Army as an Armor Crewman, or “tanker.” Within the following 16 years, he acted as a loader, driver, gunner, tank commander, section sergeant and platoon sergeant. He was stationed in Germany, California, Kansas, Kentucky and Alabama, and during his time, he was deployed to Kosovo, Macedonia and Iraq.

Nielsen’s Quilt of Valor was pieced by Sheila Walker, quilted by Linda Schneider and bound by Carol Wacker.

Ron Clark served in the US Army from 1953-1955, serving in Korea with the Battery B 145th Field Artillery Battalion. Clark received several awards, including the National Service Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, United National Service Medal, O/S Conduct Medal and the Good Conduct Service Medal.

Clark’s Quilt of Valor was pieced by Iris Cummings, quilted by Linda Schneider and bound by Kathy Dye.
