On Monday, June 22 at approximately 7 p.m. a 2008 Dodge Nitro driven by Rachelle Pfeiffer of Alliance was stopped at the crosswalk in the two hundred block of East 10th Street waiting for pedestrian traffic to cross. A second vehicle, 2012 GMC Terrain driven by Sarah Tower Cross of Alliance was stopped in traffic behind the Pfeiffer vehicle. A third vehicle which was driving eastbound on 10th Street driven by Kassidy Owens of Alliance failed to see the other two vehicles stopped in the traffic lane and collided in the rear of the Tower Cross vehicle which caused that vehicle to collide with the rear end of the Pfeiffer vehicle.
Investigation showed that Owens had dropped an item on the floor board and was attempting to get it and took her eyes off the road. The Owens vehicle had her daughter as a passenger in the vehicle and she was transported to Box Butte General Hospital by Alliance EMS. The driver of the 2012 GMC Terrain, Rachelle Pfeiffer was also transported by EMS. The Owens vehicle sustained severe damage and it was towed away. The Tower Cross vehicle sustained severe damage and was also towed away from the scene. The Pfeiffer vehicle was not towed.
Drivers in the 2012 GMC and the 2008 Dodge Nitro were wearing seatbelts. Investigation continuing.
