Tigers Snap St. Agnes’ Win Streak at Three

St. Agnes traveled to Lusk, Wyoming for a pair of junior high girl’s basketball contests on Thursday. A three game win streak by the varsity club was at stake. Unfortunately, the Crusaders ran into a strong Tiger outfit. Lusk downed the Academy 30 to 12 as the Crusaders fell to 4 and 4 on the year. The hosts also won the JV battle, defeating Alliance 24 to 12. With the loss, the Junior Varsity now has a 3 and 5 record for the season. Lusk’s defense was tough in both match ups. The Academy varsity would muster just 4 points in the first half while the JVs went scoreless in quarters one and two. Kale Hulquist was the leading scorer in the varsity game with 4 points. Leading the offense in the early JV affair was Natalie Mullen and Willow Hampton who scored four points each.

Niobrara County dominated the play in the junior varsity game which was played first. The Tigers stormed to a 13 to 0 lead at halftime. Two hoops by Mullen got the Academy on the board in the third while Hampton added a bucket. Heading to the fourth, the Crusaders were down 22 to 6. Alliance would outscore Lusk in the final quarter 6 to 2. The Academy got 2 pointers from Nala Reza, Paisley Intermill, and Hampton. Final Lusk 24 Alliance 12

Down by 11, Alliance would get a deuce by Penn Vergil in period #2 but nothing else would fall. Lusk tallied 5 points in the quarter and took an 18 to 4 lead to half.

Quarter 3 was one that the Academy would like to forget. Alliance failed to score in the period while Lusk increased its margin with 9 more points. After three quarters, SA was down 27 to 4. Four points by Hulquist in the finale helped the Academy gets some momentum. Alliance also got 2 pointers by Alexis Shelmadine and Paisley Intermill in the last period but it wasn’t enough.
