The Alliance Times-Herald recently added Alliance native Tami Swearingen to its staff. Swearingen serves as an advertising consultant working with various clients throughout the local community and Panhandle.
Alliance Times-Herald Director of Operations Shaun Friedrichsen said the office was excited to add Swearingen to its staff.
“One of the cores of the Alliance Times-Herald is its advertising,” Friedrichsen said. “We not only record history through our stories; advertising records the history of local businesses and the community. Tami has been a wonderful addition to our staff. We look forward to seeing what she will help us accomplish.”
Swearingen may be new to working at a newspaper, but she is well known for her most recent fundraising effort for the Alliance Pillars for the Park. The project raised approximately $500,000 and will replace more than 48 pillars at the Sunken Gardens.
She said she decided to join the Alliance Times-Herald staff because she wanted to help record local history.
“You don’t know where you’re going until you know where you’ve been,” Swearingen said. “It’s important to the young people in the town to know where they’re from and the unique opportunity of living at the edge of the Sandhills and getting to share that with everyone else.”
Swearingen is an advocate for recording history, which she does on a Facebook page she created called Alliance Nebraska Our Hometown. She posts a variety of content, including old photos showing people and places in the area from the past.
She also paints rocks and hides them around town as part of Kindness Rocks, which is also on Facebook. Her one true love is her English Bulldog Roxie Roo, who gets treated to a McDonald’s cheeseburger every once in a while and goes with Swearingen everywhere.
Swearingen has been instrumental in creating a new page in the Alliance Times-Herald called “What’s Happening,” which is located in today’s edition on Page C4. The page will feature local perspectives from a variety of different areas.
If you see Swearingen, please help us welcome her to our office.
