Things looked good for the Alliance girl’s basketball team Tuesday in their road game against Torrington. The Bulldogs tied the Blazers at 9 all late in the opening period. But the hosts then went on a huge run, outscoring the Dogs 36 to 0 in downing Alliance 62 to 22. It would be early in the third before AHS would score as the Blazers cruised to the victory. With the loss, the Bulldogs now see their record fall to 0 and 5 for the year. Top scorer of the night was senior guard Macey Seebohm who tossed in 12 points.
Alliance held the lead for most of the opening quarter. Torrington scored first, but a bucket by Bulldog Miah Marsteller knotted the contest at two. The game’s next 6 points then belonged to the guests. Alliance got a three point play from Brooke Bailey, a Seebohm goal, and a free throw by Addison Weber to go ahead 8 to 2 midway through the first 8 minutes of action. Torrington answered back with 7 points in a row on a three pointer, a 2 pointer, and 2 free throws to surge ahead 9 to 8. A Seebohm free throw ensued that tied the game at 9 but this is where the Blazers made their move. The quarter ended with 8 straight by the hosts and the period closed with AHS down 17 to 9. Torrington’s press was especially stout in the second. Alliance failed to score while the Blazers used many of the Bulldog’s turnovers into easy points. Overall, the Bulldogs were outscored 21 to 0 in the second period and were down 38 to 9 after 2 quarters of action.
Seven quick Blazer tallies began play in period #3. Down 45 to 9, the Lady Bulldogs ended their scoring drought on a field goal by Weber and a free throw by Seebohm at the 6 minute mark. The teams then traded points with the Blazers getting a 3 and a two pointer and Alliance getting another good shot from the charity stripe by Seebohm and a bucket by the Bulldog guard. The period came to a close with the hosts netting 6 more points and the Dogs getting 2 free throws by Bailey. After three quarters of play, Torrington was out in front 56 to 17. Five more points by Seebohm was all the Alliance could muster in the final 8 minutes. Torrington scored the contest’s last 6 points and went on for the 62 to 22 win.
