Success behind the three point line powered Lakota Tech past Alliance 81 to 53 in girl’s basketball action on Saturday. Overall, the Tatanka nailed 12 treys in getting the W. The ball game was played in Alliance as the Bulldogs fell to 3 and 10 on the year. Lakota scored 26 points in the first period and added another 25 in the third and led throughout. Junior Paz Cody was the Dog’s leading scorer with 14 points while freshman Reese Armstrong added 12. LT also won the JV contest, defeating AHS 67 to 47.
Four three pointers early on gave the Tatanka a nice advantage from the tip. L Tech first 12 tallies all came from behind the line as the guests roared out to a big lead. Alliance would get tallies by Armstrong, Brinlee Lanik, and Olivia Krejci to close to 7 at 12 to 5 but it was as close as the Dogs would get. Ten consecutive points ensued which put the Alliance deficit at 22 to 5 in closing stages of the first. Period #1 ended with Alliance getting 2 free throws by Hannah Benzel and a bucket by the sophomore and the Dogs down 26 to 9.
Alliance bested LT in the second, outscoring the visitors 15 to 13. Five quick points by Cody began the scoring for the Dogs. After 5 in a row by the school from South Dakota, Alliance countered with their best spree of the half. Free throws by Brooke Bailey, Armstrong, and Addison Weber plus a Weber basket made it a 33 to 21 contest at the 4 minute mark. Back came Lakota. The Tatanka increased its lead with a free throw, a deuce, and another trey that made the board LT 39 All 21 with under 2 minutes left in the half. Scoring for the Dogs came to a conclusion with another bucket by Krejci and a free throw by Bailey. At half, AHS trailed 39 to 24.
An attempted comeback for Alliance was foiled in the third with Lakota canning four more threes to increase their cushion. Overall, L Tech would outscored the Bulldogs 25 to 10 in the period to stay in control. Eight tallies in a row by the guests started the scoring in the third which put the Dogs down by 23. Two Krejci free throws along with a hoop by Armstrong gave the Dogs hope but back to back 3 balls by the visitors made the score 56 to 28 with under 4 minutes of the clock. Down the stretch, AHS would get tallies by Krejci and Cody but more points by LT ended the period. Alliance was down 64 to 34 going into the fourth.
Alliance’s best scoring period was the fourth with the Dogs putting 19 tallies on the board. Early hoops by Benzel, Armstrong, and Weber began the Alliance scoring. A three pointer by Armstrong was followed by a Cody trey as the Dogs started to get hot. Following 5 straight by the Takanta, Alliance received more points by Bailey, Armstrong, and Cody to keep pace. A score by Benzel finished off the points for AHS. Final LT 81 ALL 53
