Two Hitter by Ferguson Helps Seniors Defeat Ogallala 4 to 0

The Alliance Senior Peltz Co Spartans got a 2 hit, complete game from pitcher Kaden Ferguson and downed the Adams Bank Seniors from Ogallala 4 to 0 in action last Monday night. In a contest played in Alliance, Spartans scored 2 runs in the first inning plus 2 more in the fifth in route for the win. Ferguson finished his night with just one walk and striking out 7 OG hitters. On offense the Spartans could muster just one hit but used 7 walks and 2 Ogallala errors to plate 4 runs. Shortstop Tony Escamilla was solid of defense and scored 2 of the Peltz Co runs.

Ogallala would get one hit in the top of the opener but failed to score. In the bottom of the first leadoff hitter Espen Lanik drew a walk and scored following an error by the Adams bank and a wild pitch. Escamilla was up next and also walked. An RBI ground out by Ferguson scored Escamilla and the contest went to the second with Alliance in front 2 to 0. A super grab in centerfield by Lanik kept the bases clean for the Spartans in the second. The inning ended with a K by Ferguson and a put out at short by Escamilla. Alliance failed to score in the home half of the second and after 2 innings of play, the Peltz Co lead still stood at 2 to 0. Neither team would score in the third.

In the fourth Ogallala would get a leadoff hit but a double play turned by Alliance kept the guests from scoring. No hits or runs were posted by the Spartans in the fourth and the scored remained at 2 to 0. Ferguson was especially sharp in the top of inning #5. The Spartan righty would strike out the side, keeping the Alliance advantage at 2 to 0. A leadoff walk by Alliance third baseman Kegan Nelson started a Spartan rally in the bottom of the fifth. Lanik followed with a sac bunt that got Nelson into scoring position.

A perfect suicide squeeze bunt by Escamilla then scored Nelson and gave the Spartans their lone hit. Escamilla then scored on an Ogallala wild pitch as the Alliance lead grew to 4 to 0 after 5 innings of action. Both teams would not score in the sixth and the contest headed to the final with Alliance still ahead by 4. A groundout plus 2 more strikeouts by Ferguson finished the ball game with Alliance winning 4 to 0
