Two Hitter by Navy Leads Spartans to 6 to 3 Win

Alliance hit the road to Scottsbluff on Sunday for a ball game against Gillette. In a Legion baseball matchup, it was Spartans downing the Renegades 6 to 3. The Peltz Co got great pitching in getting the victory. Two Spartans-starter Kyler Hamel and reliever Jayden Garcia-held Gillette to just 2 hits. With the W, the Peltz Co Navy club sees their record go to 10 wins, 9 loses, and one tie on the year. Hamels went 4 innings and gave up just 2 hits while Garcia finished the game surrendering 0 hits. On offense, the Spartans were led by Dixon Bair who had 2 hits and 2 RBIs.

Gillette scored first in the opening frame. The Renegades used a walk and a single to take a 1 to 0 lead. In the bottom of the first, Alliance put 2 tallies in the score column. Walks to Spartan Teagan O’Gorman and Casyn Nelson Alliance off to a solid start. A steal of home by O’Gorman gave the Peltz Co their first run. Nelson then plated tally 2, scoring on a passed ball by the Renegades.

Hamel put down Gillette in order in the top of the second while Alliance added to their lead in the home half of the inning. Israel Garcia would reach on an error and advanced following a sacrifice bunt to Bair. Eventually Garcia scored when the Renegades dropped a third strike. Heading to the third, Alliance was ahead 3 to 1

A Gillette walk and RBI double pulled the Renegades to 1 at 3 to 2 in the top of the third. Meanwhile, the Navy squad went scoreless in their at bat in the bottom of the third. In Hamel’s final inning of the hill, the Spartan held Gillette without any tallies. The Peltz Co offense came to life in the fourth. A single by Carson Stull began the scoring. Alliance’s fourth run came after another passed ball by the Renegades. Bair ended the frame with an RBI double, making the scoreboard read Alliance 5 Gillette 2 after four complete innings. Jayden Garcia held the Renegades scoreless in the top of inning #5 while the Spartans also were kept on the board in the inning. O’Gorman had a single for Alliance but was left on the bases.

The Peltz Co was sharp in the sixth. Garcia had a strikeout plus an Alliance double play foiled a rally by Gillette . Batting in the bottom of the inning , the Navy club added to their advantage with one more run. Hits by Israel Garcia and Bair put the Renegade deficit at 6 to 2. Gillette would use a walk and an error by Alliance in the top of the 7th to close the gap to 3 but wouldn’t get any closer. Final Alliance 6. Gillette 3
