Two Runs in Their Final at Bat Powers Navy Past Sidney 6 to 5

Late inning drama was on hand on Sunday when the Alliance Navy club played host to Sidney. Two scores in the bottom of the sixth gave the Spartans a 6 to 5 walk off win. With the victory, the Peltz Co has a 21-21-2 record for the year. Down 5 to 4 heading into their final attempt , Alliance tallied 2 in registering the W. Spartan Teagan O’Gorman had a big knock in the rally and led the Navy with 2 hits. The Peltz Co ended the game with 7 knocks . Miguel Galvan was the starter and went 4 innings, striking out 3. O’Gorman tossed the last 2 frames and held Sidney scoreless.

A pair of singles plus an Alliance error helped the Platte Valley get off to a 2 to 0 first inning lead. Galvan would help his cause with a bottom of the first single but was left on the bases. The guests would threaten again in the top of the second. A Post 17 hit started a potential rally but the runner was tagged out at second trying to steal on a strong throw by Alliance catcher Tanner Salcido. The Peltz Co would receive a single in the home half by Casyn Rodriguez. He was stranded on the bags. After 2 innings of action, the Navy squad trailed 2 to 0.

Galvan again had another scoreless inning in the third while recording a strikeout. Alliance, too, was turned away in the third despite a Salcido single. Platte Valley increased its advantage in the fourth with 3 scores. Three miscues by the Spartans aided the visitors as Post 17 surged ahead 5 to 0. Peltz Co bats were awaken in the bottom of inning 4. The Navy group plated 4 runs to make it a 5 to 4 ball game. Walks to Kyler Hamel, Cisco Cody, and Logan Freiberger began the rally. A 2 run double by Israel Garcia pulled the Spartans to within 3. O’Gorman was next and his single made the board read Sidney 5 Alliance 3. The final run came after an RBI bunt by Salcido. Heading to the fifth, Platte Valley led 5 to 4.

Frame #5 was a scoreless one for both teams. The Navy got a hit from Hamel in the bottom of the inning but he was left on the bases. Sidney went down 1-2-3 in their last at bat, setting up the game winner. The rally began with a walk from Garcia. O’Gorman ensued with a hit. An error by Platte Valley allowed Garcia to score the tying run and got O’Gorman to third. A passed ball by the guests then ended the comeback. Final Alliance 6 Sidney 5
