Two Teens Arrested Following Deadly Assault

An assault that resulted in the death of a 15-year-old Scottsbluff male led to the apprehension of two teenagers that are facing murder charges.

According to a press release issued by Sergeant Royce Massie of the Scottsbluff Police Department, on January 20, at around 10:20 p.m. an assault occurred in the area of 5th Avenue and East Overland that left a juvenile with a penetrating wound to the chest. The juvenile succumbed to his injuries and was later identified as Wyatt Reeb. The Scottsbluff Police Department is asking anyone with security cameras in that area to review their footage and submit it to law enforcement.

“Additionally, the Scottsbluff Police Department is aware of a vehicle pursuit led by the Nebraska State Patrol that occurred around this same time, and in this same area as the assault,” Massie said in the release. “The Department is investigating the possibility that the two incidents are related.”

On January 23, Captain Lance Kite of the Scottsbluff Police Department issued an update to the homicide investigation, noting that two teens were taken into custody following the issuance of an arrest warrant.

“Both male suspects were located at a Scottsbluff home in the 1500 block of Cowen Drive,” said Kite. “The suspects were taken into custody without incident. The two suspects arrested are; Devante D.A. Castellaw (17) and Corey T. Rotherham Jr. (16) both of Scottsbluff. Both suspects were charged with Murder in the Second Degree (Class IB Felony) and Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony (Class II Felony).”

The Scottsbluff Police Department is continuing its investigation into the homicide.
