A two-vehicle crash on Highway 87 sparked a quick response from emergency personnel on April 5.
Box Butte County Sheriff J.D. Sutphen explained that two vehicles were traveling northbound on Highway 87, one was a Subaru Forester, and the other was a Dodge Ram 3500 pickup towing a trailer. He did not release the names of the drivers, instead describing the driver of the Dodge as a local resident and the driver of the Subaru as being from out of state.
Sutphen said that the driver of the Subaru attempted to pass the Dodge, and that at the same time, the driver of the Dodge was attempting to turn onto Logan road. The Subaru struck the Dodge in the process. He explained that they estimated more than $1,500 damage to each vehicle.
First responders evaluated the driver and the passenger of the Subaru, Sutphen said, and they refused to be transported to Box Butte General Hospital, though they were taken to BBGH later by a family member.
