A reported vehicle fire on South Potash Avenue on Friday afternoon led to quick action from the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department as they rushed to extinguish the blaze.
AVFD Chief Troy Shoemaker said they responded to the report of the vehicle fire with an ambulance, an engine, the heavy-rescue truck and eight personnel. He noted that when the report came in, it sounded like the vehicle was parked near a house.
“The vehicle was actually in the street, so it wasn’t what we pictured it as in our heads,” said Shoemaker. “Once the crew got there, they pulled an attack line off the truck and basically extinguished the fire. Investigation seems to point it toward an electrical issue near the firewall on the left side of the vehicle.”
Shoemaker said that the vehicle was pretty much totaled, with damage estimated at $15,000. He noted that vehicle fires can happen unexpectedly.
“You can get into it early in the morning and not experience any issues, and then, turn around later that afternoon or evening, and something like this will happen, because that’s exactly what the owner had stated, that he wasn’t having any problems with the vehicle and the fire was a total surprise to him.”
