Weisgerber Resigns from City Council

Alliance City Council Member Jay Weisgerber has submitted his official resignation from his seat on City Council, leaving a new vacancy just shortly after another vacancy was filled.

Weisgerber was sworn in to his most recent term on the City Council in December 2024, after winning the seat for two years in the general election. City Manager Seth Sorensen said that at the end of the last council meeting, Weisgerber gave Mayor John McGhehey and City Clerk Ammie Bedient his letter of resignation. The resignation was effective immediately.

Sorensen said the remaining Council Members are expected to accept his resignation at their regular meeting on Tuesday, which occurred after press time. Sorensen explained that a notice of vacancy will be published in the Alliance Times-Herald, seeking candidates to fill the vacancy. The council will have approximately 30 days to appoint a new Council Member.
