Win Over Warriors Evens Academy Record at 5 and 5

With a victory over Sioux County on Saturday, the Alliance St. Agnes Academy improved to 5 and 5 on the year. The Crusaders defeated the Warriors 38 to 28 in a ball game played in Alliance featuring a pair of evenly matched Jr. High boy’s squads. St. Agnes led by 14 at half and had a 17 point margin in the fourth before a big rally by the guests got them to within 9. Leading the Academy in scoring was Mason Conyers who tallied 9 points while Chief Cody netted 7. Sioux County won the late contest, besting SA 17 to 6 in a 2 period battle. Jaden Estevane-Acosta had 4 for the Crusaders.

St. Agnes broke a close game late in the first quarter. SA got hoops by Tee Johnson and Emerson Trumble to surge ahead 4 to 3. The Crusaders then ended the first period scoring with tallies by Liam Pena and Ashton Weingart. After one, the Crusaders were up 10 to 3. Alliance’s defense was again stingy in the second, holding SC to just 4 points. Alliance began the second on a 11 to 2 spree thanks to baskets by Trumble, Conyers, Pena, and Cody. Conyer’s hoop was a three pointer. Sioux County finished the half with a deuce as the Crusaders were ahead 21 to 7 at half.

SC would win the third but to just 2 points. The visitors scored 10 in the period while the Academy netted 8. Following a Warrior 2, St. Agnes responded with a 6 to 0 run to go up 27 to 9. Scoring for the Crusaders during the spurt were Cody and Conyers. Towards the end of the quarter, the teams traded blows with SA getting points by Weingart and Declan Kirchner. Heading to the fourth, Alliance was up by 12 at 29 to 17. A comeback by the Warriors was denied early in the fourth as the Academy got scores from Conyers, Trumble, and Tatum Devlin. The Devlin deuce made the score 37 to 20. SC would score 8 in a row before a free throw by Cody ended the contest.

Sioux County took the late game 17 to 6 in a 2 period affair. Estevane scored all the Academy in the first as the Crusaders were down 5 to 4 after one. Alliance would get a second quarter bucket by Gavin Mahoney while the guests put the game away with 12 scores in the second.
