Zuniga Receives Chopin Piano Award

The Alliance High School Band put on a performance for their friends and families on May 3, where students played solos and a variety of songs. It was there that Michael Zuniga was recognized.

Students were able to show off their hard work to those who had came to watch at the PAC. The highlight of the night was when Zuniga was presented the Chopin Piano Award.

The Chopin Piano Award was started in 1964 to honor outstanding pianists in the school music program. It recognizes exceptional dedication and superior musicianship.

Laura Mangas, the AHS/AMS Band Director, presented Zuniga with the award and gave an inspiring speech.

“Tonight’s winner not only breathes life into the instrument, he gives the music its own character. He pays matriculate attention to the fingering, practices non-stop, and makes the piano sing no matter what style of music he is playing,” said Mangas.

“So, as we continue with our program tonight, pay attention to the young man behind the keyboard breathing life into this beautiful instrument on the stage. I am very pleased to present the Chopin Piano Award to Mr. Michael Zuniga,” said Mangas.

Zuniga displayed his piano skills with a selection of songs.
