On Tuesday, November 7th, Nebraska 4-H hosted a Connecting the Dots event for all the Box Butte sophomores at the Alliance High School.
During this event the high school students participated in a simulation where they were given a life situation, they had to navigate their college choice as well as their potential career. The students had the opportunity to explore different career options within a given career cluster.
Prior to the simulation, the high school students evaluated resumes to discover what good resumes look like, practiced answering interview questions, discovered what skills motivate them and what are skills they would rather not use, as well as practiced networking. During the simulation, community volunteers represented all the different career clusters. Nebraska 4-H would like to thank these community volunteers: Dawn Butcher, Jared Mracek, Lindsey Libsack, Sean Ridgeway, Taylor Omar, Chelsie Herian, Kim Heckman, Colleen Hood, Jessica Kaiser, Lee Fritzler, Pasha Korber, Kalin Krohe, Jason Wentworth, Chris Stine, Dalyn Libsack, Mike Sautter, Tyler Sherlock, Nick Paradeis, Jake Jurgens, Zach Payne, Owen Burnett, Jordan Colwell, Monique Elliott, and Ashley Ahrens.
Across the state, students who have participated in this program have said this program has helped 90% explore future career options and 92% to know what they may want to go after high school. “We are excited to bring this event to the Box Butte community for the second year in a row. We want youth to start thinking about their career options and to help them to start prepare for their future jobs with this program.” stated Melissa Mracek, North Panhandle 4-H Educator who coordinated the event.
