Cold Shooting Plagues Lady Bulldogs in Loss to Rapid City

A four point third quarter was too much to overcome for the Alliance Lady Bulldogs Saturday in a home matchup with the Comets of Rapid City. The visiting Comets outscored the Dogs 13 to 4 in the third and went on to post a 40 to 30 victory. Alliance held a 2 point lead at halftime but could only muster 2 baskets in the third, and now sees its record fall to 7 and 13 on the year. Rapid also won the JV game, downing Alliance 67 to 16.

The Comets controlled the game early on, storming out to an early 7 to 2 lead. Bulldog Addison Weber would account for the lone Alliance points. Thanks to 4 points, by Alliance’s Macey Seebohm it helped AHS in keeping it close. Rapid led 7 to 6 after one quarter of play. A basket by Bulldog Jaelynne Clarke gave Alliance their first lead at 8 to 7 in the opening stages of the second. At the six minute mark, a Comet three gave the guests a lead at 10 to 8. Weber connected with another 2 pointer later in the half that tied the game at 10. The half closed with another trey by the comets, 2 free throws by Seebohm, and a three pointer by Clarke. At half the Dogs had a 15 to 13 lead.

Rapid would score the game’s next 9 points to surge ahead 22 to 17. Alliance’s Regan Braun ended the drought with a 2 pointer to slice the Dog deficit to 3 at 22 to 19 but the quarter closed with 4 straight Comets points and Rapid City leading 26 to 19. Hoops by Seebohm and Weber gave Alliance hope in the fourth but the Comets counter with 6 straight to keep their margin. At the 4 minute mark, Clarke scored to cut the Rapid City lead to 6 but it was close as Alliance would get. Down the stretch 2 free throws by Bulldog Haylie Winter and a 3 point play by Seebohm would account for the Alliance points but it wasn’t enough. Final Rapid 40 Alliance 30
