Crusaders Cage Bobcats in Two Contests

The Alliance St. Agnes boy’s basketball team played hosts to the Bobcats from Hemingford on Monday in a pair of games at the Holy Rosary Parish Center.  Quick starts by the Crusaders in both contests helped St. Agnes take both matchups.  In the opener the Crusader varsity team jumped to an early lead and cruised to a 50 to 21 win.  St. Agnes then got the victory in the JV game, downing the Cats

29 to 12.  Once again SA grabbed the early advantage and never trailed.

The Crusader varsity unit now sees its record go to 8 and 2 on the season. Three early points by Crusader Jackson Devlin began play in the varsity game. Up 3 to 0 St Agnes got baskets by Tanner Salcido, Jay Shelmadine, and Cayson Robertson to move out to a 9 to 0 lead.  The quarter closed with St. Agnes getting a pair of free throws by Tripp Johnson and a three by Danny Jelinek.

The Cats would get points by Kenton Walker and Cash Keane as the period ended with SA ahead 14 to 3.  Ten straight points by Alliance began play in thesecond.  Netting points during the run were: Shelmadine, Devlin, Robertson, and Johnson.  Hemingford countered with 5 points by Keane.  Four more Johnson plus a buzzer beater by Alliance’s Jett Childers concluded the half with the  Crusaders ahead 30 to 8. Play was even in the third with SA scoring 10 and Hemingford tallying 8 points. Four points by Salcido was followed by a Devlin bucket as SA surged ahead 36 to 8.  The rest of the quarter saw Crusaders getting scores from Johnson and Cisco Cody.  Andrew Miller paced the Cats in the third with 4 points with Keane and Tallon Warner added 2 points apiece.  Heading to the fourth St. Agnes

was ahead 40 to 16.  Back to back goals by Devlin and Grayson Dibrito kept the Crusaders ahead at the start of period #4.  Cody would score 6 points in the quarter while Keane had all 5 fourth period points for the Cats.  Final SA 50 HEM 21

Nine Crusaders scored for Alliance led by Johnson with 10 and Devlin added 9. Cody chipped in with 8 with Salcido and Shelmadine netting 6 each. The rest of the scoring went:  Robertson 4  Jelinek 3   Dibrito 2   Childers 2 Keane led the Cats with 13 with Miller adding 5  Warner with 2 and Walker with 1 Dibrito got the Crusaders off to a good start in the Junior Varsity game with the match’s first 4 points.  A hoop by Jelinek pushed the SA lead to 6 to 0 later in the period.  Another goal by Dibrito and a score by Joe Collins would account for the Crusader points in the period.  Hemingford got baskets in the first from Ty Horstman and Porter Sorenson.  After one Alliance led 10 to 4.  SA had 7 points in the second thanks to points by:  Phoenix Red Nest, Dibrito, and Dixon Bair.  Miller had the Cats in the second and

the teams went to half with St. Agnes in front 17 to 6.

In the third both defenses were strong as St. Agnes would score only 5 points and Hemingford netting 4.  A goal by Red Nest and a 3 pointer by Jelinek helped SA take a 22 to 10 lead heading to the fourth.  A bucket by Tatum Devlin started things in the final period.  The Cats responded with 2 free throws by Miller to reduced the Cat deficit to 24 to 12.  Alliance finished the game with points by Red Nest, Bair, and Collins.  Final  SA  29  HEM 12
