Sidney D Puts Brakes on Bulldogs

Playing their last home game of the year, Alliance’s girls basketball team had their hands full with Sidney in a contest played Tuesday. The undefeated and number one ranked Red Raiders used a strong defensive effort and downed the Lady Bulldogs 55 to 29.  With the loss Alliance now sees

its record drop to seven and fourteen for the season.  Sidney also won the JV game played earlier by a score of 55 to 20.

A combination of cold shooting, foul trouble, and turnovers would plague the Dogs in the opening half.  Sidney scored first but a bucket by Alliance’s Macey Seebohm tied the game at 2 all.  The Raiders came back with two goals in a row to move ahead at 6 to 2.  A hoop by Bulldog CC Hudson pulled the hosts to within 2 at 6 to 4 but it was the guests controlling the rest of the quarter.  Sidney ended the period with 9 straight and took a lead at 15 to 4 after the first 8 minutes of action.  A Red Raider three pointer was then followed by another goal by Sidney as the Bulldog deficit grew to 20 to 4 in the opening stages on the second.  Seebohm stopped the run with a free throw that made the score 20 to 5 later in the half.  Sidney responded with 4 free throws of their own to surge ahead by 19.  Two Hudson charity shots got Alliance to within 17, but the half closed with one more goal by the Raiders. At halftime Alliance trailed 26 to 7.

In the opening minutes of the third it was the Bulldogs closing the gap.  Back to back buckets by Alliance’s Addison Weber and Hudson made the score 26 to 11. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, Alliance would only muster one more point for the rest of the quarter. Meanwhile, the guests scored 8 points in the closing stages of the period to maintain their margin. A free throw by Seebohm would be the only points by the Bulldogs and the period concluded with Sidney out in front 34 to 12.

Points came easily for both teams in the final eight minutes of play.  AHS would tally 17 points in the fourth while the Raiders put 18 on the board. Senior Jaelynne Clarke led Alliance in scoring in the fourth with 6 points. A 2 pointer by Clarke plus a free throw was followed by a trey by Bulldog Haylie Winter that put the score at 38 to 18.  Free throws then followed by Seebohm and Clarke kept AHS close.  At the four minute mark, another basket by Clarke and a 3 pointer by Weber was countered by 2 three pointers by Sidney as the Raiders maintained their lead.  The game ended with 7 more points by Sidney and Alliance getting goals by Miah Marsteller and Shyla Salcido.
