Mabel Catherine Sayre Romick, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away to be with her Savior on May 6, 2024 at Box Butte General Hospital.
Mabel was born on December 28th, 1941 to Catherine and Edgar Sayre on a ranch south of Roundup, Montana. She graduated from Roundup High School in May of 1959, where she served as band majorette.
Mabel married Rodney Romick on November 28, 1959. They moved to western Nebraska to begin their life together as a young farming couple. Mabel’s passions were her family and cooking. She developed cooking skills that spanned multiple cultures and traditions. Her best friend noted Mabel could put out a spread fit for the President but was welcoming to people of all walks of life. Mabel was active in many community endeavors including holiday party planning for students at District 42, serving on church related committees, teaching bible andSunday school and serving Meals on Wheels. She was involved in her children’s 4-H activities, and participated in a community extension club. As farm data became more central to dailydecision-making, Mabel became one of the first individuals in western Nebraska to learn and implement agricultural computer programs.
Mabel is survived by her husband, Rodney Romick, Alliance; her children, Stacey Romick, Lincoln; Joell (John) Austin, Las Cruces, NM; Mike (Sam) Romick, Alliance; Nichole (Jake) Romick, Chemult, OR; her grandchildren, Kiefer (MaKinna) Mundt, Rapid City, SD; Austin(Kenzie) Mundt, Alliance; Margaret (Dustin) Rowland, Lexington, KY; Ryan (Maddie) Romick, Alliance; McKenna Romick, Alliance; Madison Imig, Lincoln; Andrew Romick, Lincoln, NE; Mary Jane Romick, sister-in-law, Helena, MT; Tom Romick, brother-in-law, Alliance; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in a variety of locations throughout the United States.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Catherine Sayre, sister and brother-in-law, Rudy and JoAnne Firm, brother-in-law, Milt Romick; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lucille and John Muss; and sister-in-law, Peg Romick.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with Reverend Greg Reed officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1-7 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.
