The Riverside Discovery Center, located at 1600 S. Beltline Hwy. W in Scottsbluff, is ecstatic to announce the acquisition of a 900-pound Siberian-mix tiger!
The tiger is between 6-8 years old and was rescued from a zoo in Wisconsin that closed. He arrived Nov. 1 and is undergoing a 30-day quarantine period to assess his health and allow him to acclimate to his holding area and his caregivers.
President of the RDC board, Tiffany Schank, stated, “We are excited for the addition of a tiger to our zoo! The board and staff have worked tirelessly to make it possible for this tiger to make Riverside Discovery Center its home. We can’t wait for the public to enjoy having a tiger at the facility again.”
The zoo has been working to renovate the carnivore complex to benefit the animals who call it home, including updating the outdoor holding area that will be utilized by the new tiger.
The zookeepers who have been working with the tiger since his arrival are encouraged by how well he is settling in. Interim Head Keeper, Mandi Shemenski, said, “From the very first day, the tiger has seemed very relaxed in his new home and is bonding very well with the animal care staff. We have already found out he enjoys playing with large boomer balls and shredding boxes! I am eager to watch him explore his outdoor exhibit when the time comes and to educate the zoo’s guests on this majestic animal.”
