Late Rally Lifts Bridgeport Past Lady Bulldogs

For two and one half quarters, the Alliance girl’s basketball team went toe to toe with one of the top teams in the Panhandle, the Bridgeport Bulldogs. Down by just 4 points midway through the third period, Alliance was in place for a big win. But Bridgeport answered the call and went on a 10 to 0 run that the hometown Dogs could not respond to as AHS eventually fell 55 to 30 in a contest played in Alliance on Saturday. The hosts were behind 23 to 19, but the 10 straight was too much to overcome. Alliance remains winless on the season. Bridgeport also won the junior varsity match up, downing the Dogs 27 to 19.

Action was very even in the opening stages of the first. A Bridgeport three pointer and 2 free throws by the visitors started play with Alliance falling behind by 5. Buckets though by Bulldog Macey Seebohm and Brook Bailey got AHS close at 5 to 4 at the 4 minute mark. Four free throws by the guests ensued with AHS getting hoops by Seebohm and Bailey. The first period closed with Bridgeport up 9 to 8. Just like the opening quarter, the second started with another 3 by BP. Three more good shots from the charity stripe followed as Alliance fell behind by 7. With under three minutes left in the half, the Dogs got on the board with a goal by Seebohm. Down by 6, an old fashioned 3 point play by Paz Cody sliced the Alliance deficit in half at 16 to 13. It was followed by a free throw by Addison Weber that made the score 16 to 14 with under 2 minutes left in the period. The half ended with a brief spree by BP with the guests outscoring AHS 7 to 1. Alliance got a good free throw by Giselle Gonzalez and trailed 23 to 15 after 2 quarters of play.

Both sides for Alliance were clicking early in period #3. Hoops by Kayel Lambert and Seebohm began play with AHS getting close at 23 to 19. The home town Bulldog defense was also sharp as BP failed to score until the 4 minute mark. Momentum though then went to the guests with the visiting Bulldogs going on a 10 to 0 run. Down 33 to 19, Miah Marsteller stopped the run with a Bulldog free throw but 2 consecutive scores by B Port put the guests up 37 to 20. The quarter concluded with 2 Bailey free throws and AHS down 37 to 22. Foul trouble would plague an Alliance comeback in the fourth with both Seebohm and Lambert going to the bench early in the period. The Dogs would get back to back early buckets by Seebohm and Marsteller to began the quarter but a BP three and 2 free throws stopped the spree. Another free throw by Bailey and a trey by Alliance’s Shyla Salcido pulled AHS to within 12 at 42 to 30 with under 5 minutes left in the game, but it was as close as the hosts would get. Bridgeport finished the battle with 13 straight and a 55 to 30 win.
