Chadron Outlasts Lady Bulldogs 53 to 36

On Friday, the Alliance girl’s basketball team hit the road with a contest against the Cardinals from Chadron. The Bulldogs kept in striking distance with the hosts throughout the game but in the end it was the Cards getting the win 53 to 36. Chadron outscored the Dogs in every quarter and slowly pulled away for the victory. Alliance now sees their record drop to 0 and 13 on the year. Leading the Dogs in scoring was senior Macey Seebohm who tallied 19 points. The Cardinals also won the JV game, downing AHS 54 to 34.

Both team’s offenses were as cold as the weather in the opening stages of the first period. Alliance and Chadron could muster only 2 baskets in the opening quarter. A Cardinal hoop began the action but an old fashioned 3 point play by Seebohm gave the Dogs a 3 to 2 lead. Two Chadron free throws were next while a free throw by Seebohm knotted the game at 4 with under four minutes left in the period. Another Seebohm basket ensued as the Dogs took a 2 point lead. The game’s next 5 point went to the hosts that put the Cards out in front by 3. Seebohm ended the period with 1 more from the charity stripe and the quarter concluded with Chadron ahead 9 to 7.

Three quick tallies by Chadron is how the second started. Down by 5, Alliance got the ball back into Seebohm’s hands and the Bulldog guard answered with a bucket and a three that tied the match at 12. Momentum quickly went back to the Cardinals. With under 4 minutes left in the half, Chadron went on a 9 to 0 run to surge ahead 21 to 12. Once again, it was Seebohm’s turn to respond. Five more tallies by the point guard trimmed the Alliance deficit to 4 at 21 to 17 with under a minute left in the half. The first 16 minutes closed with a trey by the Cards and Alliance down 24 to 17. Seebohm had all 17 points in the half for the Bulldogs.

Alliance sliced their margin early in the third on a three pointer by Miah Marsteller that made the score 24 to 20. Two huge three pointers by the hosts were next and, after a Card free throw, Chadron’s lead grew to 11 at 31 to 20. Back to back hoops by Seebohm and Shyla Salcido drew the Dogs close at 31 to 24 but 6 consecutive points by Chadron increased their advantage to 13. Period #3 finished with another score by Salcido and a free throw by Alliance’s Brooke Bailey.

Going to the fourth, Alliance was behind 37 to 27. Two free throws by the Cardinals started the action in the finale. A trey by Bulldog Addison Weber gave AHS a chance at the 6 minute mark. The hosts fought back with the game’s next 6 tallies to take a 15 point lead. Another 3 ball by Weber closed the gap but 4 straight by the hosts extended their lead to 49 to 33. Down the stretch, Alliance got a three pointer by Paz Cody but it wasn’t enough. Final Chadron 53 Alliance 36
