Alliance senior Macey Seebohm scored a game high 24 points, but in the end it was the Bison of McCook getting the win. In a girls basketball game played in McCook on Saturday, the Alliance team fell to the Bison 42 to 31 to drop to 3 and 18 for the year. The Lady Bulldogs got 12 points in the fourth period by the guard but it wasn’t enough for an Alliance comeback. McCook outscored the Dogs 31 to 12 in periods 2 and 3 in getting the victory. The Bison also downed the Lady Bulldogs in the Junior Varsity matchup, besting AHS 37 to 26.
Alliance had a nice defensive performance in the opening quarter, limiting the hosts to just 6 points. McCook put the first three tallies on the board to take the early lead but Alliance countered with back to back buckets by Seebohm to grab a 4 to 3 lead with 3 minutes left in the quarter. The period came to an end with both sides nailing threes. A McCook triple gave the hosts a brief lead at 6 to 4. Alliance junior Addison Weber closed out the period with a trey as the Dogs led 7 to 6 after one quarter of action.
A Seebohm shot from the charity stripe is how period #2 started with the Dogs going up by 2. Later in the quarter, a 3 pointer by the Bison made the scoreboard read McCook 9 Alliance 8. The teams then swapped scores with Alliance getting 2 pointers by Seebohm and Shyla Salcido. At the 4 minute mark, the Bison lead grew to 6 at 18 to 12 following a McCook goal. Seebohm responded with a bucket but it was the final points Alliance would get in the half. Up 18 to 14, the hosts closed out the half with a 7 to 0 run thanks a three and 2 two pointers. McCook took a 25 to 14 advantage at half.
Cold shooting by the Dogs plagued Alliance in the third. The Bulldogs would go scoreless for almost 6 minutes to start the period. Meanwhile, the Bison added to their lead with 6 consecutive tallies to surge ahead 31 to 14. At the 2:15 stage of the quarter, a free throw by Seebohm ended the scoring drought. Back to back three by the hosts was next as McCook extended their margin. Down the stretch, AHS would get a hoop by Miah Marsteller and a Seebohm deuce to keep close. Heading to the 4th, Alliance trailed 37 to 19.
Alliance would outscore McCook 12 to 5 in the finale with Seebohm garnering all 12 points. Three early tallies by the Bison opened quarter #4 with the Dogs now seeing their deficit grow to 21. A bucket by Seebohm was followed by a triple by the Bulldog point guard that sliced the Alliance gap to 16 with less than 2 minutes left in the contest. Two 2 pointers and a trey by Seebohm finished the scoring for Alliance and the battle ended with a goal by the Bison. McCook 42 Alliance 31 was the final.
