On April 8, 2025, at approximately 5:21 PM, Scottsbluff Police Officers responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision near the Five Rocks Road underpass at the Union Pacific Railway near Stable Club Road.
The investigation determined that a 2019 white Ford Expedition, driven by 67-year-old Mitchell resident Marsha Rodgers Vaughn, was traveling northbound on Five Rocks Road when it veered into the southbound lane to avoid collision due to a sudden slowing of traffic. The vehicle then collided with a southbound 2019 white GMC Yukon, driven by 46-year-old Torrington, Wyoming, resident Rebecca Pierce.
The Ford Expedition was carrying one adult female passenger, while the GMC Yukon had two juvenile passengers. Both vehicles sustained extensive disabling damage. All occupants were transported by ambulance to Regional West Medical Center, several with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Gering Police Department, Regional West Medical Center Ambulance Services, and the Scottsbluff Rural Fire Department assisted at the scene.
A large portion of Five Rocks Road was closed for approximately one hour and 45 minutes while emergency personnel treated the injured, conducted the investigation, and cleared the scene. Both vehicles required towing from the scene.
