Seven Run Fifth Inning Powers McCook Past Navy Team 13 to 2

FCB from McCook used a big final at bat to post a 13 to 2 win over the Peltz Co Navy club in Legion baseball action on Saturday. McCook was up just by 4 going into the fifth before the guests plated 7 tallies in getting the victory. The contest played in Alliance saw a tight game early with the Spartans trailing only by a single run after 3 innings of play. Starting Alliance pitcher Miguel Galvan went 4 plus inning and struck out 2 before being relieved by Jackson Devlin. Catcher and leadoff man Tanner Salcido paced the Peltz Co offense with 2 hits.

Galvan held FCB scoreless in the top of the first while the Spartans got a single by Salcido in their turn in the bottom on the inning. Salcido was stranded on the paths and the first ended with a 0 to 0 score. McCook grabbed the lead in the top of the second with 1 run. A couple of errors by the Spartans helped the visitors get onto the board. The top half of the inning closed with a McCook single and the guests taking a 1 to 0 lead. Galvan helped his cause with a single in the bottom of the inning but failed to score. Up 1 to 0, FCB tallied 2 more runs in the top of inning #3. The guests used a pair of hits, a walk, and a pass ball to move ahead 3 to 0. Alliance came back strong in their attempt in the third. Hits by Salcido and Casyn Nelson set the stage for a rally. A sac fly by Israel Garcia made the score 3 to 1. First baseman Carson Stull was next and his single kept the inning alive. An error by McCook ensued which put the score at 3 to 2. No more runs by the Spartans were scored and the game went to the fourth with the Peltz Co trailing just by one.

McCook increased its margin in the top of inning 4 with 3 more tallied. FCB registered a double, a single, a sacrifice fly, 2 walks, and a fielder’s choice to take a 6 to 2 lead. The Navy went down in order in the bottom of the inning. The wheels came off for the Spartans in the top of the fifth with McCook plating 7 runs. Four hits plus an Alliance error set the table for the big inning. McCook also used another sac fly and a fielder’s choice to go up 13 to 2. A double play turned by the guests in the bottom of the frame ended the game with McCook getting the 13 to 2 win.
