Despite out hitting their opponent, the Peltz Co Prep squad fell to the Mavericks of Kearney 6 to 3 in legion baseball played in North Platte on Saturday. The Spartans posted 7 hits to 6 by Kearney but came up a little short. Roy Torres led the Alliance offense with 2 hits. Logan Freiberger started the contest for the Spartans and went 4 plus innings. Freiberger gave up 5 hits and struck out 3. Reliever Braden Myers finished the battle, striking out one.
Esai Trejo singled to start the top of the first for Alliance and was left on the bases as the Spartans failed to score. In the bottom of the inning, Freiberger had a clean inning and the game went to the second tied at 0. Alliance got on the board in the second. AJ Garcia had a knock and would score on an RBI hit by Torres. The Mavericks responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Kearney plated 2 runs, using a couple of hits and a pair of Alliance errors. After 2 innings of action, the Peltz Co was down 2 to 1.
Inning #3 had the preps get a hit by Ryan Walker but a double play turned by Kearney ruined any hope by the Spartans. Freiberger held the Mavericks scoreless in the bottom of the frame. Again, Alliance had a threat in the next inning as Cooper Galles had a double but failed to score. Two more tallies by Kearney helped the Mavericks pull ahead by 3 in the home half of inning four. Using a couple of hits and a pass ball, Kearney surged ahead 4 to 1 after 4 innings of play.
Alliance would put together their best offensive inning in the top of the fifth. The Spartans got hits from Cisco Cody and Torres to slice their deficit. An error by Kearney ended the inning with the Peltz Co down by just 1 at 4 to 3. The ball game came to a close in the bottom of the fifth with Kearney plating 2 more tallies. The Mavericks used 3 walks and a double in claiming the 6 to 3 victory.
