A run in the bottom of the eighth inning carried the Tigers of Torrington over the Peltz Co Navy team 6 to 5 in a legion ball game in Torrington on Wednesday. Alliance captured game one with a late rally but couldn’t complete the sweep of the doubleheader. The Spartans were also down in this game but a 2 run sixth inning knotted the battle at 4. Torrington had tallies in both the home halves on the seventh and eighth innings in getting the victory. Four Peltz Co pitchers took the mound. Kyler Hamel started the game and went 4 innings. Pitching in relief were: Miguel Galvan, Israel Garcia, and Casyn Nelson. Alliance finished the matchup with 5 hits, led by Galvan who had a pair.
Runs were hard to come by in the opening inning. Hamel shut down the Tiger offense and the game went to the second tied at 0. Alliance second baseman Cisco Cody got things going for the Spartan offense in the top of the second with a walk and advanced into scoring position following a Tiger passed ball. Galvan then delivered the game’s first run with a hit that plated Cody. Torrington failed to score in their attempt in the bottom of the inning and the game went to third with Alliance up 1 to 0.
A hit by Spartan Fletcher Moseman gave the Peltz Co a chance in the third but Alliance catcher was left on the base paths. Hamel continued his strong outing in the bottom of inning #3 with a scoreless frame. In the fourth, both teams got on the board. Nelson reached on an error by the Tigers and moved into scoring position after a knock by Cody. A sac fly by Kylar Adams ensued as the Spartans moved ahead 2 to 0. In the bottom of the 4th, Torrington scored thanks an error by Alliance and 2 singles. Heading to the fifth, the Spartans were ahead 2 to 1.
Momentum then went to the side of the Tigers. In the top of the fifth, Alliance went down in order while the hosts plated 3 runs to take the lead. Torrington used an error by Alliance, a double, and 2 singles to score 3 and take a 4 to 2 advantage. Inning #6 saw a comeback by the Navy team. Alliance scored 2 to tie the contest at 4. Carson Stull started the comeback by reaching following a miscue by the Tigers. A Nelson single put runners into scoring position for Galvan. The Alliance third baseman came thru with a 2 RBI double that tied the game at 4. In the bottom of the inning, the Tigers went scoreless.
Both teams would score a tally in their try in the seventh and the game went to the 8th knotted at 5. No runs were recorded in their at bat in the eighth for the Spartans and the battle went the bottom of the final inning. Torrington then won the game 6 to 5 with a final tally.
