Win over Raiders Ends Tournament for Navy Team on a High Note

A four game tournament in Torrington came to a close for the Alliance Navy squad with a final matchup against Riverton on Saturday. The Spartans defeated the Raiders 9 to 4 and went 2 and 2 for the weekend. Earlier in the day, the Peltz Co downed Buffalo. Alliance tallied 6 scores in their final at bat in downing the Raiders. Starting pitcher Fletcher Moseman went 6 innings plus in getting the win. Teagan O’Gorman struck out the final batter of the contest for the Spartans. On offense, the Peltz Co would only muster 4 hits but drew 9 walks in posting the victory. For the year, the Navy team has a 12-14-1 record.

Riverton struck first in the top of the opening frame. The Raiders used an error by Alliance and 2 hits to take a 2 to 0 lead. Alliance went scoreless in their attempt in the first. In the second, Moseman set down the Raiders in order while offensively, the Spartans pushed one across. Casyn Nelson walked to start the inning and moved into scoring position following a hit by Eban Lore. A passed ball was next as Nelson scored Alliance’s first run. After 2 innings of play, the Peltz Co was down 2 to 1.

Both clubs scored in the third. Riverton added to their lead with one score to go up 3 to 1. The Raiders used a pair of hits to increase their margin. Moseman had 2 k’s in the top of the inning for Alliance. The Peltz Co tied the contest with 2 scores in the bottom of the frame. Despite not getting a hit in the inning, the Spartans plated 2 to tie the game at 3. Israel Garcia reached after an error by the Raiders and advanced to third after walks by Tanner Salcido and Moseman. An RBI groundout by Carson Stull ensued to make the game a one run contest. The spree ended with the Spartans getting their third run after a passed ball by Riverton.

Innings 4 and 5 had both teams failing to score. Tied at 3, the Raiders took the lead in the top of the sixth with one tally. Riverton used a single and a miscue by the Alliance defense to take a 4 to 3. The Spartans came to life in the bottom of the frame with 6 tallies. Stull started the rally with a walk and took second when Nelson was hit by a pitch. A scoring single by Bair tied the game at 4 and a balk by the Wyoming pitcher made the score 5 to 4. Jayden Garcia was next and his hit loaded the bases for Logan Freiberger. The Spartan left fielder also walked, driving in run #6. The inning closed with Alliance getting a run after a passed ball and a huge 2 run hit by Salcido. Three strikeouts by Moseman and O’Gorman ended the seventh for the Raiders as the Navy club took the 9 to 4 win.
