Flyers Give Seniors Their First Loss of the Year

Tallies in their last five innings were enough for the Flyers of Billings, Montana in getting a victory versus the Spartan Senior team on Saturday. Alliance dropped the decision 9 to 2 for their first loss on the season. The game was played in Rapid City. A three run fifth inning was key for Flyers as the Peltz Co fell to 5 and 1 on the year. The Spartan offense was held to just 5 hits for the contest. Four hurlers took the hill for the Seniors with starter Tony Escamilla going four plus frames. Jackson Smith, Creighton Fritzler, and Jaxon Poss finished the battle.

Strong pitching performances by both squads began the action with neither side scoring in the first 2 innings. Escamilla recorded 2 k’s for Alliance in the top of inning #2. In the top of the third, the Flyers finally broke through with 2 tallies. Two doubles and a single resulted in Billings taking a 2 to 0 lead. The Peltz Co countered with a score of their own in the home half of the third. Kegan Nelson walked and advanced after a Poss hit. Nelson eventually would steal home for the Spartan’s first run. Montana increased their advantage in the fourth with another score. The 406 team scored their third tally with a couple of knocks and a sac fly. Fritzler singled for the Spartans in the fourth but was left on the base paths. After four innings, Billings led 3 to 1.

Frame #5 had the Flyers go up by 5 with three more runs. The club from Montana used 3 extra base hits to surge ahead 6 to 1. Alliance used the formula from inning three to score one in the bottom of the fifth. Nelson reached and moved into scoring position after another knock by Poss. The Peltz Co’s second score then came when Nelson again stole home. In the sixth, the Flyers got one score on a double and an RBI groundout. The Spartans threaten in the inning on hits by Escamilla and Carver Nemnich but both players were stranded. Two more scores by Montana in the top of the seventh put the game away. Two hits and 2 Alliance errors made the score 9 to 2 heading to the bottom of the seventh. Once again, the Peltz Co had a chance after 2 walks but a game ending double play turned by the Flyers finished the game. Final Flyers 9 Spartans 2
