An investment and financial firm that has been open on Box Butte Ave in Alliance for the past 30 years is now under new ownership.
Maverick Churchill of Alliance, Nebraska, went to work at Independent Plan Investments as a financial advisor, in the fall of 2022. Greg Powell, the current owner of IPI at the time, took Maverick under his wing to teach him the ins-and-outs of the business. Having over a decade of experience in banking, Maverick immediately caught on to the business and grew to love it. In January of this year, Maverick finalized the purchase of the business from Greg.
The business was first established by Chan Schwartz as CDS Financial in ‘94 when he left a corporate firm with the belief he could better help people as an independent advisor.
Greg Powell joined in 2000 and eventually purchased the business. With Greg’s background in banking, he slowly started moving the business towards a service model. Greg eventually renamed the business Independent Plan Investments. As Greg grew closer to retirement and Maverick found his calling as a financial advisor, the idea of handing over the reins came to fruition.
Maverick has renamed the business Independent Plan Financial, LLC. to better reflect his strong desire to push further towards being a financial planner and a service provider for all things financial, rather than just selling “investment products.”
“I feel the financial industry can be a scary place and has failed people,” says Churchill. “I’m here to unravel the mystery and do better by them.”
