Storm Sweeps Past Preps 7 to 3

A three game winning streak was on the line for the Alliance Prep team on Wednesday in a home contest against the Westco Express. The Spartans rallied with 3 runs late but came up short, losing to the Storm 7 to 3. Down 5 to 0 in the bottom of the fifth, the Peltz Co scored 3 times to cut their deficit to 2. Westco put the game away in the sixth with 2 more scores. Alliance ended with 6 hits and were led by Logan Freiberger who had 2. On the mound for the Prep club were starter Israel Garcia who hurled 4 innings and Jayden Garcia who pitched the final 2. The matchup was game #1 of a doubleheader.

Two early strikeouts by Garcia kept the Storm off the board in the top of the opener. Alliance would get a first inning double by Dixon Bair but no scores. Both teams failed to score in the second. The Preps got a single by Cooper Galles in the second but he was stranded. Westco grabbed the lead in the third with one score. The Express used a walk and an RBI hit to take a 1 to 0 advantage. Alliance went scoreless in their third inning at bat.

A four run fourth was key in the win for Scottsbluff. Westco had a hit, a couple of walks, and 3 passed balls to take a 5 to 0 lead. Spartan bats remained silent in the fourth as the Peltz Co went down in order. Inning #5 had the Storm go scoreless while the Preps tallied 3. Freiberger started the spree with a single and moved into scoring position after an error by the Bluffs. A single by Jayden Garcia scored the Spartans first run. Alliance’s final 2 scores came on hit by Roy Torres. The game went to the final inning with the Peltz Co down 5 to 3. Westco made a comeback difficult with 2 more tallies in the sixth. The Express used a walk, a single, and a 2 run scoring double to go up 7 to 3. Freiberger would have a hit in the bottom of the sixth but the Preps didn’t capitalize. Final WESTCO 7 Peltz Co 3.
