Day 1 of the Conley tournament concluded Thursday night with a Seniors game between Alliance and Torrington. The Spartans used a strong pitching performance by Espen Lanik and a 2 run homer by Kobe Strom to defeat the Tigers 10 to 0. Action was played in Alliance. Lanik gave up a knock in the first and then held Torrington hitless the rest of the way. The contest was called after the sixth inning due to the run rule. Strom ‘s shot in the third gave the Peltz Co a 6 run lead. With the win, the Seniors now have a 14 and 4 record. The Spartans ended the contest with nine hits and were led by Carver Nemnich, Nason Thompson, and Jaxson Esparza who had 2 each.
After the first inning hit by the Tigers, Lanik held the guests without a hit as the Tigers held to score in the first. Alliance got 3 tallies in the bottom of the inning. Nemnich and Thompson began the spree when both batters reached after errors by the Tigers. Another miscue by Torrington gave Alliance their first score. Tony Escamilla was next and his RBI hit made it a 2 to 0 game. The scoring came to a close with an RBI knock by Esparza.
Three strikeouts by Lanik kept a 3 run advantage with Alliance in the second. The Spartans doubled their margin the home half of the frame . A hit by Kegan Rodriguez started it. Nemnich followed with a run a scoring double giving the Peltz Co a 4 to 0 lead. This set the stage for Strom who home run to left made the score 6 to 0. Thompson added a triple in the inning but he failed to score. After two innings of action, the Seniors enjoyed a 6 to 0 lead.
Play slowed in innings 3, 4, and 5 with both squads going scoreless. Hits by Nemnich and Thompson in the fourth gave the Spartans a chance but both players were left on the bags. Lanik continued his strong effort in the sixth as the Tigers went down in order. Alliance ended the game in the bottom of the 6th with 4 scores. Both Lanik and Strom reached after being hit by pitches. Walks to Nemnich and Escamilla made it a 7 to 0 game. The Spartans then got a bases loaded double by Esparza to finish off the Tigers.
