Alliance hosted day 3 of the Conley tournament on Saturday. The Navy squad started the day with a come from behind win over Torrington 11 to 8. Alliance scored 5 tallies in their final 2 at bats in getting the W. The Spartans were down 8 to 6 going into the fifth but put 3 on the board to take the lead for good. With the victory, the Peltz Co has a 16-18-1 record on the year. Alliance got 3 innings by starter Casyn Rodriguez and 3 frames from reliever Jaxon Poss. On offense, the Navy club concluded with 8 hits with Poss, Rodriguez, and Tanner Salcido leading the way with 2 hits each.
Inning #1 had both squads going down 1-2-3 with Rodriguez getting a strikeout for the Spartans. The Tigers came alive with 3 tallies in the top of the second. Torrington used 3 walks and a single to take a 3 to 0 lead. Alliance came back with 2 in the bottom of the frame. The Spartan’s rally began with a hit by Salcido and Israel Garcia reaching after being hit by a pitch. Teagan O’Gorman also was hit by a Tiger pitch that loaded the bases. A walk to Jackson Smith made it a 3 to 1 ball game. Rodriguez ended the scoring with an RBI hit and the contest went to the third with Torrington ahead 3 to 2.
Three singles and a double by the guests in the top of the third gave Torrington a 5 to 2 advantage. Rodriguez would get 2 k’s in the inning. Alliance knotted the matchup with 3 runs in the home half. A two bagger by Poss plus an error by the Tigers and an RBI hit by Garcia made it a 5 to 4 contest. The Peltz Co then tied the game with a passed ball.
Torrington retook the lead in the fourth with 2 runs on a triple and a pair of hits. An RBI hit by Salcido in the bottom of the inning sliced the Navy team’s deficit to 1 at 7 to 6. Inning 5 had the guests score once on a double and a single. Down 8 to 6, the Spartans started their comeback with walks by O’Gorman and Miguel Galvan. A 2 run miscue by the visitors tied the game at 8. Poss then put the Peltz Co up by 1 with an RBI hit. Heading to the final inning, the Spartans were ahead 9 to 8.
The game closed with the Tigers going scoreless in their final at bat while the Spartans plated 2 to end the battle. An O’Gorman single was followed by walks to Smith and Galvan that loaded the sacks. Rodriguez then delivered his second knock of the contest that scored 2 and finished the contest.
