Twenty first half tallies were more than enough for the Alliance St. Agnes girl’s basketball team on Monday in a contest against Hay Springs. In getting a 29 to 9 win, the Academy goes to 3 and 3 for the year. Seventh grader Penn Vergil led the Crusader with 15 points while Kale Hulquist tossed in 6. The Hawks would win the JV, two period affair 9 to 2. SA drops to 2 and 4 on the season with their Junior Varsity club. Alliance scored 10 points each in the opening periods in taking the victory. At half, St. Agnes was ahead 20 to 3. The games were played in Alliance.
Four points apiece by Vergil and Hulquist helped the Academy take the early momentum. Hulquist tallied the first four as the Lady Crusaders went up 4 to 0. Meanwhile, the Alliance defense was stout in shutting out the guests in the quarter. A bucket by Vergil made it 6 to 0 while an Addison Intermill score gave the hosts an 8 point cushion. The first six minutes closed with an another Vergil basket and the Crusaders up 10 to 0. Alliance got the better of the Hawks in the second, outscoring the visitors 10 to 3. Six tallies by Vergil increased the Alliance margin. The hosts also got second period scores by Hulquist and Paisley Intermill. At half, SA was in control 20 to 3.
Hay Springs scored first in the third but it was the only basket by the Hawks in the period. Alliance countered with 3 points by Vergil and hoops by Alexis Shelmadine and Addison Intermill. Heading to the fourth, the scoreboard read Alliance 27 Hay Springs 5. The guests would outscore the Academy in the final 6 minutes 4 to 2. Another tally by Vergil would account for the Crusaders lone score. Final St. Agnes 29 Hay Springs 9

Alliance fell in the night cap, losing the match up 9 to 2. Hay Springs tallied 4 points in the opening period to surge ahead. The Academy’s Willow Hampton got the hosts into the scoring column in the second but 5 more points by the Hawks helped the visitors get the victory.
